My Demon Hunter

My Demon Hunter was another fantastic addition to Aurora Ascher’s Hell Bent series. I loved Mist in this one! He’s spent thousands of years as Hell’s most feared demon Hunter, tracking down escaped demons and following orders without question. But after witnessing other demons finding happiness on Earth, he begins questioning his own existence and wondering if there’s more to life than serving Hell.

One of my favorite things about Mist was his complete lack of understanding when it came to human relationships. He initially believes humans are pets and decides he wants one of his own. Watching this powerful, intimidating demon try to figure out friendship, affection, and romance was hilarious. Beneath his dangerous personality, though, there’s a surprisingly vulnerable character who has never really been given the freedom to make his own choices.

Then there’s Lily, who was exactly the kind of heroine I enjoy. She’s outspoken, stubborn, independent, and has absolutely no problem standing up to Mist. I loved that she challenged his ridiculous ideas about humans and refused to let his possessiveness control her. Their banter was entertaining, their chemistry was great, and I appreciated that their relationship developed into something more meaningful than physical attraction.

Mist is definitely a morally questionable character. He’s violent, possessive, protective, and doesn’t suddenly become a completely different person because he falls in love. I liked that Aurora allowed him to remain a demon while gradually learning what it means to care about someone. Lily accepts who he is without sacrificing her independence, and their emotional connection gives the romance more depth.

I also loved seeing Ash, Bel, Meph, and Raum again. Their constant bickering, questionable behavior, and fierce loyalty continue to make them one of my favorite dysfunctional found families. Watching Mist become part of their group was especially entertaining.

The larger storyline involving Hell, the escaped demons, and Mist’s struggle with his assigned purpose kept me invested beyond the romance. There were a few sections where several things were happening at once, and I would have appreciated a little more time for certain developments. However, those moments were minor compared to how much I enjoyed the characters, humor, action, and supernatural world.

There’s also plenty of spice between Mist and Lily. Their intimate scenes are explicit, but I appreciated that the romance still had emotional substance and didn’t overshadow the larger story.

Would I recommend My Demon Hunter? Absolutely! If you enjoy paranormal romance, morally gray demons, strong independent heroines, protective and possessive love interests, found family, humor, action, and plenty of spice, I highly recommend this one. I’d suggest starting with My Funny Demon Valentine to fully appreciate the characters and ongoing storyline.

My Final Verdict: Another easy five-star read from Aurora Ascher. I loved Mist’s character development, Lily’s determination to stand up for herself, their chemistry, and the emotional connection that developed between them. The humor, supernatural conflicts, and returning characters made this an entertaining read from beginning to end. A few sections felt a little busy, but they didn’t take away from my enjoyment. I’m completely invested in these demons and can’t wait to continue the series!
