SASSY'S REVIEW
❖I already knew Savannah and Roman’s part of Astoria, so I enjoyed meeting more of the people who live there and seeing what happens beyond their main story. Night Embrace brings together several separate tales, each with its own characters and supernatural situation. It felt like getting a peek into different corners of a town with a lot of history—and a lot going on after dark. Some stories grabbed me more than others, but the collection left me curious about the world Ellie Sandoval has built.
The Night Hunt and Snowed In were my favorites. I loved the strange, old magic surrounding the woods in The Night Hunt, and Snowed In had me interested right away with two natural enemies trapped together in a cabin during a blizzard. Both stories gave me the mix I enjoy: a strong atmosphere, supernatural lore, relationships that had room to change, and plenty of spice. I also liked how the stories draw on Astoria’s traditions and bring in different parts of its supernatural community.
The biggest thing that held me back was the balance between the sex and the rest of the story. I wasn’t looking for anyone to behave like they’d taken a vow of celibacy. 😂 The erotic content is clearly part of Carnal Sanctuary, and it earns every one of those peppers. I enjoyed the intimate scenes most when they showed something about the characters—when vulnerability, past hurt, or a change in their relationship gave the moment more meaning. In other scenes, I found myself wishing we could spend that time on the characters, their connections, or the supernatural details instead.
That’s what kept Night Embrace at 3.5 stars for me. I wouldn’t want the collection to lose its heat or its erotic nature. I just wanted more of the mythology, magic, history, and relationships that made me interested in Astoria in the first place.
WOULD I RECOMMEND NIGHT EMBRACE? Yes, I’d recommend it to readers who enjoy high-spice paranormal erotica. Each story brings a different pairing and situation, with seasonal magic woven throughout. Some worked better for me than others, so readers may have different favorites. Those already familiar with Carnal Sanctuary will also enjoy getting to know more of Astoria and its supernatural residents.
MY FINAL VERDICT: I enjoyed visiting Astoria from a few new angles, and The Night Hunt and Snowed In gave me the combination of atmosphere, lore, character connection, and spice I was hoping for. I finished wanting to know more about the town and its people. The collection would have earned a higher rating from me with a little more space for those elements alongside the erotic scenes. Astoria’s residents certainly know how to celebrate the seasons. I just wanted a few more fireside stories about the town’s magic—and maybe slightly fewer bedroom activities. 😂🖤
