I don’t think anyone is going to be particularly surprised that I preordered this one. I’ve already read Fourth Wing, Iron Flame, and Onyx Storm, so when Rebecca Yarros announced that we were getting another book from the Empyrean world, adding it to my collection was pretty much a given.
Threshing Day is officially part of the Empyrean series, but there is one important distinction: this is not Book Four, and it does not continue Violet and Xaden’s story after Onyx Storm. Instead, it’s a companion collection that takes us back to Threshing at Basgiath through thirteen different stories featuring familiar characters and their dragons.
And there’s one story in particular that immediately caught my attention: Xaden’s Threshing story is included. We’re finally getting to go back and experience the day Xaden was chosen from his perspective, along with twelve other Threshing stories from across the Empyrean world.
The deluxe first edition also includes sixteen original full-color illustrations by artist Joe Requeza, making this more than just a collection of bonus stories and definitely something I wanted for my physical Empyrean collection. This collectible first edition is available in the United States and Canada while supplies last, so if you want this particular edition sitting on your shelf too, you may not want to wait too long to preorder.
I preordered mine pretty much as soon as I saw it was available, and while I’m still very much waiting—rather impatiently—for the actual continuation of the series, I’m certainly not going to complain about getting thirteen more stories from Basgiath in the meantime. Especially when one of them belongs to Xaden.
