SASSY'S REVIEW

❖

This story follows Violet Bentley, who runs Blackbird Bakery and is trying to get through the holidays while her family treats her like an afterthought. Then her twin announces she’s marrying Violet’s ex—and expects Violet to be her maid of honor. My first thought? Ew. No. If that were my sister, I’d want to punch her in the face.

The family dinner made me even madder. Isabelle is smug, Andrew humiliates Violet and says cruel things, and her parents let it happen. The three brothers are the only ones who stand up for her. I liked seeing them have her back, but I kept wanting Violet to put her family in their place, too. Why is she trying so hard to keep the peace with people who clearly don’t care about keeping it with her?

When Lennox, Sawyer, and Rhett claim they’re dating Violet, the fake relationship gives her a way to face the wedding with some support. Violet and Lennox have a history from years earlier, while Sawyer and Rhett’s feelings become clearer as they spend time with her. The brothers move into Violet’s small home, and the story mixes holiday errands, family tension, old feelings, and Violet’s efforts to keep her bakery going.

I liked the way the brothers show their care in everyday moments. When Violet has painful cramps, they bring her what she needs and keep her company. They encourage her baking and make her feel wanted as she is. Those thoughtful moments add a sweet side to a very spicy romance. I also liked how Violet’s situation brings the brothers back together and helps them work through their old conflict. Her presence gives them a reason to reconnect, and that part of the story felt satisfying.

I wanted Violet to stand up for herself sooner. Her family keeps letting her down, and she spends a lot of time swallowing her hurt to keep the peace. She does push back later, but I wanted that backbone to show up earlier—especially after the way they treat her at dinner. I also wanted more of a confrontation with Andrew. After the way he humiliates Violet, I wanted the brothers to push back harder and for him to face more consequences. The story doesn’t give me the satisfying reckoning I wanted. A few of the grand gestures were also hard for me to believe.

WOULD I RECOMMEND THEIRS FOR THE HOLIDAYS? Yes. I’d recommend it to readers who love cozy holiday romances with extra spice, a hardworking heroine, protective love interests, and a why-choose relationship. If you’re hoping the people who hurt Violet will face more consequences, though, you may be as frustrated as I was.

MY FINAL VERDICT: Despite the parts that didn’t quite work for me, Theirs for the Holidays was a good read. I enjoyed Violet, the Christmas setting, and the ways the brothers show up for her. I liked that her situation helped the brothers repair their relationship, but I wanted Violet to stand up for herself sooner—and for Andrew to face more consequences for how he treated her. The lack of accountability and a few stretches in believability are what keep this from being a five-star read for me.
