SASSY'S REVIEW
❖Salvaged by the Siren by Kate Callaghan was a fun, spicy, and surprisingly heartfelt paranormal romance that I really enjoyed. Between the supernatural charm of Indigo Cove, the entertaining banter, and the unlikely romance between a stubborn siren and a protective vampire, there was plenty to keep me interested. I especially appreciated that beneath all the humor and romance was a meaningful story about loneliness, healing, and finding somewhere you truly belong.
Aerin was easily one of my favorite parts of the story. She’s independent, capable, stubborn, and perfectly comfortable speaking her mind. I love a strong female character who doesn’t suddenly forget how to take care of herself just because a man enters the picture, and Aerin certainly didn’t disappoint. I also enjoyed Gideon’s personality, especially his confidence, sarcasm, and protective nature. Watching him adjust to a world that had changed so much was entertaining, but I particularly appreciated the more vulnerable side of him that gradually emerged.
Their chemistry was another highlight for me. I loved their teasing, their disagreements, and the way their relationship developed into something more meaningful than physical attraction. There were plenty of funny moments, but it was the quieter interactions and growing emotional connection that really made me appreciate them as a couple. Neither character was particularly looking for love, yet they gradually became exactly what the other needed.
I also really enjoyed Indigo Cove and its supernatural residents. The coastal setting, local traditions, and different paranormal beings gave the town plenty of personality. And honestly, how could I not love Kennie? A Kraken with a personality was definitely not something I expected to become so attached to! I appreciated the found-family atmosphere and the way the supernatural elements were incorporated into everyday life. It’s the kind of fictional town I’d happily revisit.
While I really enjoyed the story, there were a few things that kept it from being a five-star read for me. The pacing was generally good, but the middle occasionally slowed down as some of the romantic uncertainty became repetitive. Meanwhile, certain developments involving Gideon’s past and the final conflict felt a little rushed. I would have loved more time exploring the mystery surrounding his history, the supernatural world of Indigo Cove, and the emotional impact of everything he had experienced.
I also wanted a little more depth from some of the supporting characters and more development of Aerin’s own emotional struggles. The foundation was certainly there, and I enjoyed watching both characters grow, but I think allowing some of those emotional moments more room to develop would have made their journey even more meaningful. These weren’t issues that ruined my enjoyment, but they were enough to keep it from earning that fifth star.
Would I recommend it? Absolutely! If you enjoy paranormal romance, fiercely independent heroines, protective vampires, forced proximity, witty banter, found family, supernatural small towns, and plenty of spice, Salvaged by the Siren is definitely worth adding to your TBR. I’m also looking forward to seeing what else Kate has planned for Indigo Cove because this is a supernatural community I’d love to spend more time with.
My Final Verdict: A fun, spicy, and heartfelt paranormal romance with lovable characters, great chemistry, plenty of humor, and a charming supernatural setting. A little tighter pacing, more development of Gideon’s mysterious past, and greater emotional depth would have made this a five-star read for me. Overall, I really enjoyed Aerin and Gideon’s story, and I’m looking forward to returning to Indigo Cove!
