SASSY'S REVIEW
❖Cops and Robbers by Jessica Krueger was such a fun read! It has a little bit of everything I enjoy in a good paranormal romance: action, suspense, mystery, humor, supernatural beings, found family, and enough romantic tension to keep things interesting. I especially loved that the romance was only one part of a much bigger story, with criminal investigations, dangerous secrets, and plenty of supernatural complications along the way.
Kate was easily one of my favorite things about this book. She’s clever, flirtatious, unpredictable, a little chaotic, and definitely not someone who makes life easy for anyone trying to catch her. I loved her personality and the way she could turn even the most serious situations into something entertaining. But there’s also a much more vulnerable side to Kate that I appreciated getting to know. Beneath all that confidence and mischief, she’s carrying quite a bit of emotional baggage, and as the story progresses, you begin to understand that there’s much more to her than her reputation as a thief.
Raz, on the other hand, is much more disciplined, responsible, and determined to do his job. As an FBI agent and dragon shifter, he’s used to following the rules and maintaining control, which makes Kate just about the worst possible woman for him to become interested in. I really enjoyed the contrast between their personalities. Kate seems to take great pleasure in testing his patience, and Raz certainly has his hands full trying to figure her out. Their banter, flirting, and constant back-and-forth made their interactions some of my favorite parts of the book.
What I appreciated most about their relationship was that it wasn’t just about physical attraction. Don’t get me wrong, the chemistry is definitely there, and there’s plenty of sexual tension and spice. But I also enjoyed watching them gradually lower their defenses and begin to understand each other. Both have their own emotional struggles, responsibilities, and reasons for keeping certain things to themselves. Seeing those walls slowly come down gave their relationship more depth and made me care about what happened between them. I especially loved their quieter, more vulnerable moments, and I honestly wouldn’t have minded a few more of those.
The story itself also had plenty going on outside the romance. I enjoyed the combination of supernatural abilities, dragon shifters, criminal intrigue, investigations, and the danger surrounding everything Kate and Raz were dealing with. The mystery involving a powerful supernatural weapon added another interesting element, and I liked how the different pieces of the story gradually came together. The supporting characters were another highlight for me. I love a good found family, especially when the characters have their own personalities, loyalties, and relationships that make the world feel more developed. This is definitely a group I’d enjoy spending more time with.
One thing I particularly appreciated was that the romance and spice never completely overshadowed the actual story. There was enough action, suspense, and character development to keep me invested in what was happening beyond Kate and Raz’s relationship. I enjoy a spicy romance as much as anyone, but I still want a good story to go along with it, and Jessica delivered that here.
The biggest thing keeping this from being a full five-star read for me was some repetition, particularly when it came to Kate and Raz’s attraction, possessiveness, and internal emotional struggles. There were a few moments when I felt I’d already gotten a pretty good understanding of what they were feeling, only to have those same emotions revisited again. It wasn’t enough to take away from my enjoyment, but I think tightening some of those sections would have helped the middle of the book flow a little better. I also would have loved more of the meaningful conversations between them because those moments were where I felt their connection was strongest.
Overall, I really enjoyed Cops and Robbers. Kate and Raz were entertaining on their own, but together they made an even better pair. I loved Kate’s mischievous personality, Raz’s determination, their chemistry, and the way their very different personalities challenged each other. Between the supernatural world, the criminal intrigue, the supporting characters, and the emotional moments, there was plenty here to keep me interested. Even with the occasional repetition, I found myself invested in both their relationship and the larger story.
Would I recommend Cops and Robbers? Absolutely! If you enjoy paranormal romance with dragon shifters, a clever and mischievous heroine, a protective and duty-driven hero, romantic suspense, criminal investigations, found family, plenty of banter, and a healthy dose of spice, I’d definitely recommend giving this one a read. It’s a fun combination of romance, danger, humor, and emotional depth, and I’m looking forward to spending more time in Jessica Krueger’s supernatural world.
My Final Verdict: A really enjoyable paranormal romance with memorable characters, an entertaining opposites-attract relationship, and enough mystery and action to keep things interesting. A little less repetition and a few more meaningful moments between Kate and Raz would have made this a five-star read for me, but it’s still one I’d happily recommend.
