SASSY'S REVIEW

❖

The story starts out with Serena, a witch who’s good at finding information and staying out of trouble. But when a job goes wrong and a warlock ends up dead, she’s accused of murder by Lazarus, the Demon Lord. To clear her name, Serena agrees to help him figure out what happened. It’s a risky deal, especially when she finds herself drawn to the one person she probably shouldn’t be getting close to.

I was hooked by that setup, and the plot kept growing from there. The murder mystery leads to bigger questions and more danger, but it never lost the parts I cared about most: Serena and Lazarus, their relationship, and the secrets around them. The twists kept me guessing, and I didn’t feel like I could see everything coming.

Serena was easy to root for. She’s smart, stubborn, and used to taking care of herself. She can hold her own around Lazarus, even when she’s scared or outmatched, and she doesn’t just sit back and let other people make her choices. Lazarus starts out as a powerful, hard-to-read Demon Lord, but there’s more to him than that. I liked seeing the layers come out as he faced his past and let Serena get closer. Their relationship takes time to build, and the mix of attraction, frustration, and growing trust kept me invested.

The world was another big part of what I enjoyed. It’s a changed version of Earth where supernatural groups have their own districts, rules, and rivalries. The witches, demons, vampires, and shifters made the setting feel full of life and danger. I could picture the world without feeling buried under explanations, and the magic and politics mattered to the story instead of just sitting in the background.

The pacing worked for me, too. There was enough action and suspense to keep things moving, but the story also gave Serena and Lazarus time to talk, argue, and get to know each other. I liked that the romance didn’t take over the plot, and the plot didn’t push their relationship aside. Both kept me interested all the way through.

I can’t think of anything that didn’t work for me. My only complaint is that I wasn’t ready for the story to end—and, as we’ve established, that’s not exactly a bad thing. I wanted more time with Serena and Lazarus, which probably tells you how much I loved them.

WOULD I RECOMMEND DEMON PACT? Absolutely. If you enjoy paranormal romance with witches, demons, a strong heroine, a brooding love interest, supernatural politics, action, and suspense, I think you’ll have a good time with this one.

MY FINAL VERDICT: I loved the characters, the world, the twists, and the way Serena and Lazarus’s relationship grew. The plot kept me guessing, the pacing held my attention, and I was invested from the beginning to the end. I wasn’t ready to leave this story behind, and I’d happily recommend it.
