SASSY'S REVIEW

❖

The Delta’s Daughter was a really enjoyable paranormal shifter romance with an interesting storyline, plenty of pack drama, unexpected romance, danger, and spice. I especially liked the author’s take on wolf shifters and how the story gradually reveals more about Lamia’s heritage and abilities.

Lamia was one of my favorite things about this book. She’s strong, independent, fiercely protective, and more than capable of standing up for herself. I enjoyed watching her discover more about who she is and what she’s capable of. Finding out that her wolf, Inanna, is actually a dire wolf was an especially interesting twist. I love supernatural creatures, and that detail made the shifter mythology stand out for me. It’s also what pushed my rating from four stars to 4.5.

The academy setting was another aspect I enjoyed. The story begins at a steady pace, allowing time to get familiar with the characters, their relationships, and the shifter world before the conflicts become more intense. As the story progresses, the pacing picks up considerably, bringing plenty of secrets, betrayals, pack politics, danger, and unexpected developments. I also enjoyed the multiple points of view because they gave me a better understanding of the different characters and what was happening around Lamia.

There’s definitely no shortage of romance or spice either. The intimate scenes are frequent and very explicit, easily earning this one four peppers. However, there was still enough happening with Lamia’s heritage, the relationships, and the larger conflicts to keep me interested in the storyline.

The biggest thing keeping this from being a five-star read for me was the graphic nature of some of the darker content. The book includes on-page sexual assault, captivity, torture, pregnancy loss, and brutal violence. I don’t necessarily have a problem with dark subject matter in fiction, but certain scenes were more explicit than I personally enjoy reading.

That didn’t ruin the book for me, though. When I reached scenes that went beyond my personal comfort level, I simply skimmed or skipped those sections and continued reading. I was enjoying the characters and storyline too much to let a few scenes that weren’t for me overshadow everything else I liked. I would, however, strongly recommend checking the content warnings before starting.

Overall, I really enjoyed Lamia’s journey. Her independence, growing understanding of her heritage, the unusual dire wolf element, and the complicated relationships kept me invested. I also liked the combination of academy life, pack politics, romance, and supernatural conflict. There were plenty of twists to keep things interesting, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the story continues in the second book.

Would I recommend The Delta’s Daughter? Absolutely! If you enjoy paranormal shifter romance, strong independent heroines, fated mates, protective love interests, academy settings, pack politics, unexpected twists, and plenty of spice, this one is worth checking out. Just be sure to read the content warnings first, because some of the darker scenes are quite graphic.

My Final Verdict: A really good shifter romance with an interesting supernatural world, a strong heroine, plenty of drama, and some unexpected twists. I especially loved the revelation about Inanna being a dire wolf, which gave the story something different from the usual wolf-shifter romance. While some of the graphic content went further than I personally prefer, it didn’t take away from how much I enjoyed Lamia’s story. That unique twist was enough to earn this one an extra half-star, and I’m excited to continue the series.

Final Rating: ⭐ 4.5/5 Stars | 🌶️ 4/5 Peppers
