Seven Sins

Seven Sins was a really enjoyable paranormal fantasy romance that gave me just about every supernatural creature I love reading about. J.R. Thorn combines succubi, incubi, sirens, muses, dragons, vampires, witches, angels, blood magic, fated mates, and the seven deadly sins into one very spicy supernatural adventure.

This omnibus includes Succubus Sins, Siren Sins, and Vampire Sins, following Sonya, a succubus struggling to accept her own nature while uncovering secrets about her family, mysterious runes, the Blood Stone, and her place in a much larger supernatural world.

One of the things I appreciated most was how the why-choose romance actually made sense for Sonya’s character. She needs sexual energy to survive, but her relationship with Sarah, a female muse who wants monogamy, leaves her struggling with guilt and shame over something she cannot change. I found their situation frustrating because neither was necessarily wrong for wanting different things, but their relationship was ultimately incompatible with Sonya’s needs. Sonya’s attempts to deny those needs nearly destroy her, making her journey toward self-acceptance an important part of the story.

I enjoyed her relationships with Nate, Luke, Jet, and Xavier because each man brings something different to the story. Their personalities and connections with Sonya feel distinct, and I appreciated that the relationships weren’t simply about choosing one man over the others. There are plenty of complications, jealousy, possessiveness, and emotional adjustments, but the why-choose dynamic is connected to Sonya’s magic, survival, and personal growth.

Sonya herself was another reason I stayed invested. She’s stubborn, impulsive, reckless, and makes some questionable decisions, but she also grows throughout the trilogy. I liked watching her gradually stop treating her supernatural nature as something shameful and begin understanding that her choices matter more than what she was born to be.

The worldbuilding was probably my favorite part. Thorn’s interpretation of the seven deadly sins, Sonya’s mysterious runes, the Blood Stone, supernatural politics, and different magical species made the story much more interesting than I initially expected. I especially enjoyed how the mythology continued expanding and how the different supernatural elements connected to the larger mystery.

However, I would have liked more time exploring that world. There are a lot of characters, revelations, magical abilities, and conflicts packed into these three books, and the pacing sometimes moves too quickly. Some important developments could have benefited from more explanation, stronger emotional moments, and additional character interactions outside the romance.

And then there’s the spice. With Sonya being a succubus, sexual energy is directly connected to her survival, magic, and relationships, so the explicit content serves a purpose in the story. There are F/F, F/M, and multiple-partner encounters throughout the trilogy, easily earning this one five peppers.

That said, I felt the sexual content became repetitive in places, particularly when reading all three books together. Once the Blood Stone mystery and larger supernatural conflicts had my attention, I occasionally wanted less time spent on intimate scenes and more time developing the plot. A better balance between the spice, worldbuilding, and emotional development would have made this a stronger read for me.

Despite those issues, I genuinely enjoyed Sonya’s journey. The mythology kept me curious, the relationships were entertaining, and there was enough mystery and supernatural conflict to keep me reading. I also appreciated that the omnibus provided a satisfying conclusion to Sonya’s story while leaving room for the larger Blood Stone world to continue.

Would I recommend Seven Sins? Absolutely! If you enjoy paranormal fantasy romance, why-choose relationships, fated mates, supernatural creatures, blood magic, prophecies, complicated relationships, and plenty of spice, this trilogy is worth checking out.

My Final Verdict: A fun, imaginative, and extremely spicy paranormal romance with interesting mythology, distinct love interests, and meaningful character development. I loved Thorn’s twist on the seven deadly sins and how Sonya’s journey toward self-acceptance connected to the larger supernatural storyline. The fast pacing, repetitive intimate scenes, and limited time spent developing certain plot and emotional moments kept it from being a five-star read for me, but I had a great time with it.
