Forbidden Feasts

By Navessa Allen

Well, Look What I Found… Guess We’re Having aLights Out Dinner Party! 😂🖤

Okay, if you loved Lights Out as much as I did, you’ll understand exactly why there was absolutely no self-control involved when I found Forbidden Feasts: The Official Lights Out Cookbook and Apron Gift Set. 😍📚 I am such a huge fan of Navessa Allen’s Into Darkness series that the second I saw this, my fangirl heart pretty much made the decision for me. I mean, a whole cookbook inspired by Josh and Aly and I get an apron? Yeah… this was coming home with me.

Did I technically need another cookbook? Probably not. But did I need this cookbook? Apparently, yes. 😂 At this point, Josh could probably slap his name on a set of kitchen tongs and I’d be standing there with my wallet open asking if they come in black. 🖤

What I love about Forbidden Feasts is that it doesn’t feel like some random cookbook that had the Lights Out name slapped on the cover just to lure in those of us with absolutely no resistance when it comes to our favorite fictional characters. It genuinely feels like an extension of the world Navessa created. From the moment I started flipping through it, I had this ridiculous smile on my face because it felt like getting to spend a little more time with Josh and Aly—and I will happily take any excuse to do that. 🥰

Navessa even opens the book with, “Your kitchen has never seen anything like what’s coming next… and neither, my darling, have you.”

Well, alright then. Apparently, we’re not easing into this. 😏🔥

There are around 60 recipes inside, with everything from appetizers, shareable boards, and salads to hearty entrées, breakfast dishes, desserts, cocktails, and mocktails. But, of course, because this is Lights Out, we aren’t just making regular old chicken and cupcakes over here. Oh no. We have Blindfolded Tasting Board, Thirst Trap Hot Wings, Ravish Me Chicken, Morning-After Shakshuka, Josh’s Baklava, Lingerie Cookies, and Lights Out Black Velvet Cupcakes.

Seriously… Ravish Me Chicken. 👀

I don’t know if I’m supposed to cook it, date it, or add it to my book-boyfriend list, but either way, I’m intrigued. 😂

The recipes are fun, but honestly, it’s everything else that makes this book so special to me. Throughout the cookbook, you get character notes, behind-the-scenes tidbits, in-world commentary, gorgeous photography, playful humor, and all these little callbacks to the story that fans will immediately recognize. I found myself actually reading the cookbook instead of just looking through the recipes because there was always something else to discover. 📖✨

That’s why I don’t see this as one of those collector’s items you buy, put carefully on a shelf, and then never touch again because apparently its only purpose in life is to sit there looking pretty and collecting dust. This is something I actually want to leave out on my coffee table. I can pick it up whenever I’m missing Josh and Aly, flip through it just for fun, or have another Lights Out fan spot it and immediately start one of those completely normal conversations where we spend the next hour discussing fictional men and all the red flags we would absolutely tell our friends to run from in real life. 🚩😂

And now, of course, I want to cook from it.

Which brings me to the apron.

Listen, if I’m going to attempt Josh’s Baklava, I might as well be properly dressed for the occasion. 👩‍🍳😂 Will the apron magically give me Josh-level cooking skills? Probably not. But if I completely screw up the recipe, at least I’ll look like I knew what I was doing right up until the moment I order takeout. 🤷‍♀️

But then I had an even better idea.

A Lights Out-themed dinner party. 🥂🖤

Tell me this book isn’t PERFECT for that! We could have the Blindfolded Tasting Board, Thirst Trap Hot Wings, Ravish Me Chicken, cocktails, and Lights Out Black Velvet Cupcakes for dessert. Throw in some masks, dim the lights, and suddenly my innocent little dinner party has become slightly concerning to anyone who hasn’t read the book. 😈😂

Which honestly just makes me want to do it more.

And I think that is why I love this set so much. It’s not just something connected to a series I adore that I can add to my collection. It’s something I can actually have fun with. I can cook from it, leave it out as a coffee-table book, flip through it whenever I’m missing the characters, share it with other fans, or use it as an excuse to invite everyone over and feed them suspiciously named chicken. 😂🍗

I’m not someone who normally runs out and buys fandom cookbooks, but this one? I’m so freaking glad I did.

No, it’s not another Josh and Aly novel—and yes, I’m still waiting, Navessa. 👀📚 But it does feel like getting another little piece of their world, and for someone who loved Lights Out as much as I did, that makes this little gem so much more than just another cookbook sitting on my shelf.

So apparently my Lights Out obsession has officially escaped my bookshelf and made its way into my kitchen.

And you know what?

I’m totally okay with that. 😏🖤

Now I just need to know…

Who’s coming to my Lights Out dinner party? 🎭🥂😂
